Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh will on Sunday take over as the new vice chief of the Indian Navy. He will succeed Vice Admiral Satishkumar Namdeo Ghormade who superannuated after more than 39 years of service to the Navy on Friday, officials familiar with the matter said on Saturday.
Singh was earlier holding the charge of deputy chief of Integrated Defence Staff (ops).
Singh is a graduate of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the navy’s executive branch in 1986. He was the lead drafter for the Indian Navy’s Maritime Doctrine, 2009, Strategic Guidance to Transformation, 2015, and the Indian Maritime Security Strategy, 2015.
He specialised in Navigation and Direction in 1992 and attended the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the UK in 2000. He has undergone the Naval Higher Command Course in 2009 at Naval War College, Mumbai, and the National Security Strategy Course in 2012 at the National Defence College, Delhi.

Officials said that Singh has held a range of command, training and staff appointments, and has served on the most class of ships of the Indian Navy over the past three decades. He has also served as the Indian naval attache in Iran.

{{/usCountry}}His previous appointments in Flag rank include Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (communications, space and network-centric operations) at Naval HQ; Flag Officer Sea Training, Kochi; Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Mumbai; Commandant Naval War College, Goa; and Controller Personnel Services.
In other appointments, Vice Admiral Suraj Berry on Saturday took command as the navy’s Chief of Personnel while Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as Controller Personnel Services and Vice Admiral Atul Anand took command as the director general of naval operations.
