This is the joint-highest victory margin for India in terms of runs, having achieved a similar result against Bangladesh in 2007. Ravichandran Ashwin was the star for India as he picked up 4/63 to become the fastest to 300 Test wickets. The offspinner achieved his feat in his 54th Test, beating the previous mark of 56 by Dennis Lillee. On Day 3, Virat Kohli coasted to his fifth double century as India’s frontline batsmen crushed Sri Lanka’s toothless attack. Kohli smashed 213 while Rohit Sharma celebrated his return to the side after more than a year with an unbeaten 102 before the hosts declared their second innings closed on 610/6d. India have taken a 1-0 lead in the series and will be aiming to seal the series in the third Test in New Delhi.
