A crime branch official told HT on Sunday that the police had dispatched forensic evidence related to the identity of the nine terrorists — in the form of DNA profiling — and their photographs to the Pakistan government.

“We are waiting for an official responses from the Pakistan government making a claim for the bodies. If they fail to do so, we will be initiating the required legal procedures for their burial here,” the official said.

Earlier, the Mumbai police had issued a ‘Black Corner Notice’ through the Interpol wing of the CBI to invite claimants from across the border to repatriate the bodies for performing the last rites.

The bodies have been kept in the J.J. Hospital morgue. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had also invited tenders for special steel caskets to preserve them for a period longer than usual.
