According to the EC directives, the district election officer (DEO) and superintendent of police (SSP or SP) must undertake tours to different localities in the district. They must meet the communities and explain the preparations made to conduct peaceful, free and fair poll.

But the DEO or SP has undertaken no such exercise as of now, when the election is merely eight days away.

When asked on the implementation of the Election Commission's directives, DEO, Dilip Jawalkar, told Hindustan Times, "Our voter awareness campaign, which is going on across the district, is also an extension of confidence building measure, and the steps prescribed by the commission are generally applicable for sensitive places like naxal affected areas". "We are doing every thing to ensure peaceful and non-disrupted election in the district and preventive measures have been taken by the police to negate the occurrence of any untoward incident during the poll," he added.
