A celebration of personal style, Abhishek Gupta's IFW 2004 Menswear line was very kitsch, very retro and very funky. Drawing inspiration from diverse influences, his clothes moved between Hip-hop, punk, legendary Classic Rock, graffiti and pop art with effortless ease.

Oversized afros and vibrant oranges with kitschy prints dominated the ramp. The overall look was very Retro-American and had the 'feel-good-factor' in abundance. The ski wool caps and glasses added to the American-ness.

According to Abhishek, his collection is dedicated to the 'thinking man' who has managed to blur the stereotypes of sexuality and social expectation. The clothes, he says, are extremely modern and consist of clever detailing and engineered fits.

Although the tailored knee-length coats and structured pants were in contrast to the otherwise laid-back funky theme, their vibrant colours, great use of denim and complete wearablity went well with the entire line.

Abhishek teamed new age funk with Saville Row perfection and made a collection that has not been designed as co-ordinates but as separates that can be styled totally differently depending on a person's mood or occasion. It's like a peek into the wardrobe of a man whose attitude speaks volumes.
