"It was an aberration. We will ensure that it does not happen again," Kapoor told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

He said it is a sensitive matter and the Army is investigating the incident. "There are checks and balances in Army. We are instituting more checks in terms of linkages and connectivity and postings of officers to prevent recurrence of such incidents," he added.

Kapoor said though the allegations against Purohit had not been proved yet, the Army was conducting checks on profiles and postings of the personnel to prevent repetition of such incidents.

"Once anything gets proved, appropriate action will be taken as per the law of the Army," he said.

General Kapoor refused to take further questions on the issue, saying it was a sensitive matter.

"Our External Affairs Minister has made the statement. I have nothing to add to what the honourable minister has said," he added.
