Addressing soldiers on a tour to Rajouri and Poonch districts, he said the just concluded parliamentary elections, which were free of any untoward incidents, were one of the achievements of the state police who would now have to work with more commitment and in coordination with other security agencies.

Preparations for the polls were reviewed during the recent visit of defence minister Arun Jaitley to the state. There are concerns and apprehensions that some quarters may try to create trouble with a host of local issues.

Tension is already brewing after a youth was killed in Sopore town on Monday when security men fired on a group of people protesting after an encounter in which a top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was shot dead.

The DGP said continuous vigil needs to be maintained by taking people into confidence to curb criminal activities.

Terrorists have been trying to infiltrate from the borders in the twin districts of Rajouri-Poonch where most incidents of cease fire violations have taken place. According to reports, only 10 terrorists have managed to infiltrate the border this year.

The DGP was accompanied by IGP (Jammu zone) Rajesh Kumar, DIG (Rajouri-Poonch range) AK Atri, SP Rajouri, Mubassir Latifi and SP Poonch, Shamsher Hussain.
