Delay in exam admit card distribution
UPSET OVER the delay in distribution of admit cards for the final exams, students created ruckus and indulged in violence at Allahabad University's Pravesh Bhawan on Tuesday.
The students also indulged in stone pelting, damaged ceiling fans and window panes and forced the on-duty staff to flee from the office. Only after the arrival of police force and personal intervention of the AU Proctor could order be restored and distribution of some admit cards be carried out.
The trouble started when the Pravesh Bhawal staff failed to start the distribution of the admit cards to hundreds of students assembled there for the purpose on time. Fed up with standing for hours and not getting a clear reply as to when the admit cards would be distributed, the students started to pelt stones at the windows and counters of Pravesh Bhawan. They also damaged the ceiling fans to show their anger and later forced their way into the office forcing the staff to flee from the scene.

On getting the information about the violence, AU Proctor Prof HN Mishra first sent cops to the scene and later himself arrived at the Pravesh Bhawan to bring the situation under control.

After much difficulty, the Proctor managed to convince the students to line up at the counters to collect their admit cards and even got some of the office staff back to man the counter. However, soon he realised that there were no separate counters for the girls which further created problems. Prof Mishra then asked girls to report at the Pravesh Bhawan at 9 am on Wednesday to collect their admit cards.
"There was some ruckus created by the students, but we managed to bring the situation under control. Everything will function smoothly from Wednesday," Prof Mishra said.
Despite repeated efforts AU Controller of Exams Prof HS Upadhyaya was unavailable for comments.
