One of the two accused policemen in the Badaun gang-rape case was nabbed in a joint operation by the Special Task Force and Bareilly and Badaun police late on Monday night near the Bareilly junction, officials said.

Constable Avanish Yadav was arrested when he was about to board a train for Delhi.

Bareilly city superintendent of police Rajiv Malhotra confirmed the arrest of the accused.

Avanish, along with constable Veer Pal Singh Yadav, had allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped a 14-year old girl in the Musajhag police station in Badaun district on New Year's eve and was on the run since then.

Veer Pal is yet to be traced. Both the constables have been suspended.

The girl's mother had said in her complaint that her daughter went out of the house to relieve herself, while she was coming back Veer Pal and Avanish pushed her in a car and took her to the police station.

They raped her there and when her condition deteriorated they dumped her on the outskirts of the village at midnight, she had said.
