He was 74 and is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.

Sah was admitted to a private hospital in Patna last week after he fell in the bathroom. He was later sent in an air ambulance to New Delhi, officials said.

He died in the course of his treatment at 1.30pm today. His body would be brought to Patna on Tuesday, a source said.

The body would be taken to his ancestral place at Nirmali in Supaul district for cremation.

Kumar expressed shock and grief at the death of Sah and said "it was my personal loss."

Describing Sah as a veteran socialist, Kumar said "the minster was a staunch follower of Rammanohar Lohia and Jay Prakash Narayan. He was a leader of socialist movement and his contribution to the state would always be remembered."
