The opening of Baitul Futuh, the largest mosque in Europe by the Ahmaddiya community in southwest London, was one of the major religious developments in Britain. Along with this Glasgow also saw the creation of the second largest gurudwara outside London.

To reduce the religious bias in Britain, new regulations were also introduced to outlaw discrimination or harassment or victimisation based on religion or belief. Leicester's Institute for the Study of Indo-Pakistan Relations pushed for facilitating talks between India and Pakistan to ensure that communal violence in the subcontinent does not have a fallout in Britain.

Hindus initiated efforts for communal harmony in Britain. In some cases the community criticised the Government for neglecting their needs and being too lenient with their concerns. On the other hand, the Sikh Federation (UK) voiced their concerns of Sikhs who feel let down by the Government's hollow promises. They even demanded a seperate identity for themselves.

Islamic wave surged with the Census 2001 revealed that Islam is the second most popular religion in Britain after Christianity.
