Tripura Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar on Tuesday said a secular government with the support of the Left at the Centre was the need of the hour to save the country from the clutches of the BJP-led alliance.

Addressing an election meeting in support of CPI-M nominee NN Krishnadas at Mathur in the district, Sarkar said though the Congress was a secular party, it had often compromised with communal forces, besides its economic policies, harming the country's larger interests.

The Hindutva agenda of the BJP, as well as the economic policies of the Congress, were dangerous, he said.

Coming down heavily on the UDF, his party's principal rival in Kerala, Sarkar said the BJP and the Antony Government were 'two sides of the same coin.'
