Congress on Thursday condemned the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying the cult of violence was not only anti-democracy but also generated instability.
"It is a matter for the domestic agencies of Pakistan to investigate. But we must express our deep concern at anything that disrupts and disturbs the even keel of democratic governance in Pakistan," AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told PTI.
He said Indian democracy rightfully abhors the cult of violence. "It is not only anti-democracy but also generates instability," Singhvi said.
Striking a personal note, Singhvi, who was a few years junior to Bhutto in a rival university, she at Oxford, he at Cambridge, said, "in her death, an extremely charismatic leader and a naturally engaging speaker has gone."
