Corporators spit fire, officers play truant

THE EXECUTIVE Committee meeting of Kanpur Municipal Corporation was marred by controversies as six senior officials skipped the meeting. Municipal commissioner Arvind Singh, chief accounts officer PN Singh, additional municipal commissioner Uday Narayan Tewari and deputy municipal commissioner RC Srivastava were among those missing from the meeting. As expected corporators Kamal Shukla, Arti Dixit stormed the meeting hall and traded charges against senior officials of the KMC.

THE EXECUTIVE Committee meeting of Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) was marred by controversies as six senior officials skipped the meeting.

Municipal commissioner Arvind Singh, chief accounts officer PN Singh, additional municipal commissioner Uday Narayan Tewari and deputy municipal commissioner RC Srivastava were among those missing from the meeting.

As expected corporators Kamal Shukla, Arti Dixit, Hashmendra Pratap Singh and Durgesh Yadav stormed the meeting hall and traded charges against senior officials of the KMC.

Allegations of reducing the tax of a college were leveled against RC Srivastava by the corporators, who demanded his suspension. One of the corporators accused PN Singh of remaining absent during office hours. The corporators demanded his suspension.

The contentious issue of installation of a statue of Lord Shiva at the Ashok Nagar crossing was also raised by the corporators. However, the executive committee passed mayor Anil Kumar Sharma’s suggestion for the construction of ‘Amar Jawan Shahid Smriti’ at Ashok Nagar.

“Talks with Army officials for the construction of ‘ Amar Jawan Shahid Smriti’ at Ashok Nagar have already been held,” Sharma said.

A proposal for allotment of a plot to the Major’s family at subsidised rates at Mahabalipuram was also passed by the committee.

Another crucial decision regarding the regularisation of services of casual employees of Municipal Corporation was also passed. It was decided that a proposal would be sent to the State Government for regularisation of services of those casual employees who had been working since last ten years.

A proposal for the regularisation of services of teachers of the schools run by the corporation was also passed unanimously. However, those to be selected would be done on the basis of seniority.
