Dispute over big car turns ugly, man kills nephew

Prashant Kaushik and his uncle Hari Mohan Kaushik, who is a former municipal councillor and a former board member of the Ghaziabad Development Authority, were partners in their building construction business and were involved in the construction of flats at Mahendra Enclave, Ghaziabad.

On Saturday night, Hari Mohan arrived at Prashant’s house at 1am and demanded Rs 26 lakh to buy a car like him. Last month, Prashant had purchased a Hyundai Santa SUV for around the same amount.

“My uncle wanted Prashant to give him the same amount of money he had used to pay for his car. When my mother and I arrived outside the house, we saw my uncle firing shots at my brother, who fell down. While he was fleeing, my uncle also fired shots at me and my mother,” Prashant’s brother, Anurag Kaushik, who is also an eye witness and a complainant in the case, said.

The Police later registered a case of murder and attempt to murder under sections 307 and 302 of IPC against Hari Mohan Kaushik, after Anurag forwarded a police complaint at Kavi Nagar police station.

“There was a minor altercation as the accused was furious at the victim, who had acquired an SUV for Rs 26 lakh. He absconded after shooting the victim. Our teams have launched a search operation,” said SS Yadav, superintendent of police.
