Gharu claims gold in karate at SA Games

Honours were split in the karate competitions of the South Asian Games in Colombo with India, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan bagging a gold each in three separate categories.

Afghanistan's R Hassani bagged the gold in 60kg men's kumite, the silver going to Pakistan's Shaukat Ali and bronze to Md Z Islam of Bangladesh.

In 53kg women's kumite India's S R Gharu picked the gold while Nepal's Amirka Shakya won the silver and Sri Lanka's PAC Senavirathnu won the bronze.

In 48kg women's kumite, Sri Lanka's TAI Perera took the gold, Sharmin Parvin of Bangladesh picked the silver and Pakistan's R Shaheen won the bronze.
