GYMNASTICS UTSAV-2006 was organised with much fanfare by National Sports Academy at the Allahabad Gymnastics Hall, Boys’ High School compound, Allahabad on Friday.
Rt Rev Dr Isidore Fernandez, Bishop of Allahabad, was the chief guest at the glittering ceremony, which was largely attended by the association of principals of schools for ISC in UP who are in the city for an annual conference and workshop on how to create a creative child.
A display of gymnastics by gymnasts of National Sports Academy, Allahabad was a special event of the conference, organised by NL Singh, Principal Bishop Johnson School and college.
IAS officers Surendra Singh, M Lokesh, Gurrala Srinivasalu, Kanchan Verma and Govinda Raju who are presently on a tour of Uttar Pradesh, also attended the function.
The guests were welcomed by Dr Shikha Chatterjee, director Academics of National Academy and taken around for a rich display of medals and trophies won by the Academy’s gymnasts in National and International championships.
Thereafter, senior gymnastics coach of the academy, DK Rathore, conducted the function which began with a march past by the gymnasts followed by a display of basis gymnastics by new talents scouted this year. Spectacular performances by gymnasts kept the spectators spellbound. Choreographed gymnastics exercises by the girl gymnasts was a feast for the eyes.
The guests were introduced to the five-member Indian team selected for the 18th Asian Games-2006 to be held in December in Qatar, Doha, which included Ashish Kumar, Mayank Srivastava, Rohit Jaiswal, Deepesh Sahu and Vivek Mishra, all gymnasts of National Sports Academy, Allahabad. The Association of Principals was all praise for the brilliant performance of the gymnasts and lauded the efforts of Dr UK Mishra in raising such an institution where children were taught discipline and hard work to achieve results not only at the national but also at the international level.
