THE MORTAL remains of the Army jawan Rajendra Singh was flown in to Lucknow’s Amausi airport on Tuesday morning. Singh sacrificed his life for the country fighting anti-nationals in Batalik sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

Martyr Rajendra Singh was offered tributes with full military honour. Thereafter, the body was sent to his native Haliyapur of Sultanpur district.
The atmosphere at the airport was emotionally charged as the men in olive green took their positions to receive the body. Tears rolled down the cheeks of the onlookers as the coffin was being brought out of the airport. The soldiers of 8 Gorkha Rifles sounded the ‘last post’. On behalf of the Station Commander, Col V K Ghildiyal laid a wreath. Some wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Army commander of the central command and 8 Gorkha Rifles. Thereafter, the soldiers slow marched as the body was being taken to the native place of the martyr.
Subedar Rajpal who had brought the body to Lucknow told the scribes that along with Rajendra two other jawans had also laid their lives for the country.
