India's first green information technology (IT) park was inaugurated on Thursday at the Salt Lake electronics complex in Kolkata on Thursday.
Speaking at the occasion, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said 'Technopolis' would be the country's first green building in IT space.
The building would have 7.75 lakh square feet of built up space with the capability to house 15,000 IT professionals when fully operational.
IT minister Debesh Das said that West Bengal would have a total built up space of 1.33 crore square feet in the next three years, while the employment level was expected to touch two lakh then.
Rahul Saraf, managing director of Forum Projects, promoter and developer of Technopolis, said that the cost of the project was Rs 125 crore and was completed in a record time of 17 months.
The building had been certified by US Green Building Council for energy savings to the extent of 38 per cent.
