Kalpana Chawla, the first Indian-born woman astronaut

Kalpana, alongwith six crew members on-board the NASA space shuttle Columbia, were killed on February 1 when the spaceship exploded above the ground minutes before it was to land at Kennedy Space Station. This was Kalpana's second spaceflight.
