Taking note of the alleged police atrocities on doctors of GSVM Medical College, Kanpur on February 28, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Friday directed the state government to transfer all the cops stationed at Swaroop Nagar police station outside the district with immediate effect.
While observing that there was no need to take permission of the Election Commission in view of the model code of conduct, the court directed the SSP, Kanpur to constitute a special investigative team (SIT) to probe the incident in a fair manner.
The bench comprising justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and justice DK Upadhyaya directed that a SIT team, comprising five inspectors and one circle officer, be formed to investigate all seven criminal cases lodged at Swaroop Nagar police station.
The court took note of the affidavit filed by 81 junior doctors/students of GSVM Medical College on the alleged terror unleashed on them by the police.
The bench also directed the SSP to register a complaint, based on the internal report submitted by GSVM College principal, and get it probed.
