Karnataka Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda tendered his resignation on Sunday following allegations of his involvement in a recruitment scam.
The move came after Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa reportedly asked him to step down over alleged irregularities in the recruitment of more than 35 non-medical staffers in state-run medical colleges.
“As per the directions of the chief minister, I have resigned,” Gowda said.
The resignation came a day before Monday’s crucial by-elections in Gulbarga South and Kadur assembly constituencies.
Gowda said his resignation was not an admission of guilt. “Even now, I say there are no irregularities in it. The matter is before the court. I will await the court verdict,” he said.
It was not known if the resignation was sent to the Governor. (With agency inputs)
