Light rains greet Delhi but other states hit hard by monsoon

Rainfall measuring 20.7mm lashed parts of the capital till 8:30am and humidity in the air was recorded at 93%, a Met official said.

It is predicted that light rains might continue throughout the day.

"The sky will be mainly clear with possibility of light rain and thundershowers through the day," the official said.

The Met department on June 22 had forecast that monsoon was likely to hit Delhi by June 26.

The maximum temperature is expected to be 36.8 degrees celsius, same as the day before. However, it was recorded two notches below the normal at 25.8 degrees celsius on Wednesday.

Unlike Delhi, however, some other states like Karnataka, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir have been hit hard by the monsoon rains.

In coastal Karnataka, the Met department has adviced fishermen to be wary of strong wings and thundershowers.

In Gujarat, Amreli district was the worst hit as two houses collapsed due to a flood like situation, killing 13 since Wednesday. At least 45 have lost their lives in multiple districts, including Surat, Gaondal and Rajkot. The National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Airforce has been deployed for rescue and relief work in the state.
