Air Force pilot Commander Uday K Sondhi, who has flown for over 1,952 hours with an artificial leg, and Nishant Kasibhatla, the world record holder for memorising 1,964 digits, have made it to the 17th Limca Book of Records that was released here today.
Industrialist Vijaypat Singhania, a world record holder for hot air balloon flights, painter Satish Gujral and SOS Villages president J N Kaul are others who feature as "People of the Year" in the book.
K Geethika, the country's heaviest child, and Shirdhar M Chillal, the person with the longest fingernails, have also found a place in the records book.
"The Limca Book of Records 2006 goes beyond paying tribute to Indians who have the desire to excel, it in fact inspires us to believe that nothing is impossible. The book is a celebration of success among Indians," said Coca-Cola India CEO Atul Singh, who released the book.
"It is not always eccentric and stupid works that get registered in the Limca Book of Records. Rather, it inspires youngsters to better the best in the world by achieving something in life," said Singhania, who flew to a height of 69,852 feet in a hot air ballon.
Speaking at the book release function, Kaul stressed the need for more iniatives to change the lot of orphaned children. Commander Sondhi, a Shaurya Chakra winner who became the only Indian to fly with an artificial leg, attributed his feat to the help of his family and seniors.
