Born in Dacca (now Bangladesh) on the 14th October 1943, Malini graduated from Jadavpur University, Calcutta (West Bengal) with an MA and Phd. She specialised in writing, environmental work and campaigned for animal rights.
She married Shri Mihir Bhattacharya on the 6th May 1967 and they have one daughter.
She was first elected for a place in the 10th Lok Sabha, and then re-elected again for the 11th.
In her spare time Malini likes reading and is also fond of traveling. She has also visited various destinations from around the world.
