Moderate Hurriyat, headed by its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Thursday asked visiting US president Barrack Obama to "press India to resolve Kashmir problem" and sought his intervention as third party.

"Kashmiris believe Obama during his visit would press upon India to solve the Kashmir dispute by making the country aware about the dangers associated with the Kashmir dispute. Obama should make India realise that the solution of Kashmir dispute was must for bringing peace and stability in the region," said Farooq's spokesman in Srinagar.

The Mirwaiz, a proponent of third party mediation on Kashmir, asked the US "to put pressure on India to shed its traditional intransigence and start a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan and Kashmiris to solve the dispute for once and all."

The spokesman said US being the sole superpower understands that India and Pakistan could not solve the Kashmir issue through bilateral means. "The third party intervention to solve the issue is required. The Hurriyat believes that Obama would play his role in solving the Kashmir issue on urgent basis," said moderate Hurriyat spokesman.

The spokesman alleged that reports about a looming attack in India ahead of Obama visit was "aimed to divert the attention of international community from Kashmir dispute."
