Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Tuesday won the prestigious Mizoram-Myanmar border constituency of Champhai by defeating his predecessor and PCC chief Lal Thanhawla by a margin of 265 votes in triangular contest.
Zoramthanga also won from Kolasib constituency by a margin of 91 votes, defeating C Lalbiakthanga of the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) while former Sports minister and Congress nominee P C Zoramsangliana finished third.
The Mizo chief minister had won consecutively from Champhai since 1987 after his MNF party came overground.
Lal Thanhawla who also contested from two constituencies was successful in Serehhip constituency where he defeated an independent candidate supported by the ruling MNF Jerome Sawilaia by a margin of 927 votes.
Meanwhile MPC chief and leader of the opposition in the state assembly Lalhmingthanga won from Lunlei South constituency by defeating his nearest MNF rival K Lalsanga by 62 votes.
Lalduhawma, president of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) alliance partner of the MPC, who contested from two constituencies - -Ratu and Aizawl South two-- also won Ratu seat beating Deputy Speaker Lalthan Kunga by a margin of 236.
