Known as a tough taskmaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday showed an artistic side of his personality while being given a presentation on his government’s flagship “Housing for All” scheme to finalise its guidelines and logo.
Modi is set to launch the scheme on June 25. Finding the dozen logos shortlisted by the Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation ministry from designs procured from different creative agencies as “too cluttered”, he took a paper and pen to draw it himself.
“He drew a few sketches on how he would like the logo to be designed. The PM said it shouldn’t have too many elements and suggested a combination of ‘H’, meaning ‘house’, with a not too distinct roof and the Ashoka Chakra on top,” said a source.
On the PM’s suggestion, the ministry has now started work on making a simple logo. The paper on which Modi drew the sketches was kept by the housing secretary as a souvenir.
The Housing for All scheme is also being renamed as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The ministry had earlier proposed to call it Sardar Patel National Mission for Urban Housing but finally settled on a more generic name after reservations over the name were expressed by some cabinet ministers in February, when it had first come up for approval.
