Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Saturday asked the youth of India to tweet and sensitise the opposition about the importance of allowing Parliament to function as many important bills necessary to take the country forward were pending.
Speaking at the Start-Up India event, Modi stressed that many bills that were aimed to help young entrepreneurs have been stalled in Parliament. He indicated that entrepreneurs would not enjoy the benefit of ‘faster exit for start-ups’ offered in the start-up action plan, till the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Bill (2015) tabled in the Lok Sabha in December in 2015 is allowed to be passed.
Earlier, finance minister Arun Jaitley highlighted that growth of entrepreneurships is visible even in political sphere. “It (the start-up event) represents not only the changing social profile of India, probably the future business and economic profile. It also marks an important change in the mindsets of people…”
Jaitley highlighted the changes that entrepreneurial environment in the last few years have given a new hope and opportunity to take on the challenge from the established businesses. He highlighted that the top 30 business that existed pre 1991 have been replaced by people, who in some sense were start-ups. They did not belong to business families or dynasties nor did they have benefit of large capital.
“The kind of changes that are taking place in the Indian political system have stark similarity. There was an era we lived in when surnames did matter, today they don’t,” Jaitley said.
