Keeping in view the large number of traffic violations in the city, now, the Gurgaon police will not only penalise the offenders but will also impart road safety and driving skills to them.
The police have joined hands with carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) to set up a Road Safety Knowledge Centre.
Police commissioner SS Deswal inaugurated the one-room centre, which will operate from the office of DCP, traffic, on Tuesday. The offenders will be trained into road signage, rules and behavioural aspects through multimedia and simulators from here. He said, "It will provide road safety knowledge to violators and bring a cultural shift to improve traffic conditions in the city."
A group of 35 autorickshaw drivers underwent training at the centre on Tuesday.
The police will track the violators when they come to pay challans and bring them to the training room.
The training will be mandatory for violators and they will have to pay Rs 50 for it.
"Those, learning to drive at the MSIL centre, will be exempted from the written test, which is a must to obtain the learner's licence," said Mahesh Rajoria, director of MSIL Institute of Driving and Training Research.

{{/usCountry}}However, they will still have to undergo the other tests conducted by the transport department to obtain a permanent licence.
"The road safety knowledge centre is the first of its kind. With this, the MSIL plans to improve traffic in Gurgaon," said Mayank Pareek , a senior executive with the company.
