At least 25 persons, including seven security personnel and two scribes, were injured as police fired teargas shells to disperse stonepelting protesters who took to streets after Friday prayers in different parts of Kashmir Valley on Friday.
The clashes erupted at over a dozen places in Srinagar, curfew-bound Baramulla and Sopore towns of north Kashmir and Anantnag district headquarters in south Kashmir, official sources said.
One person was injured in clashes between police and groups of youth who chanted slogans demanding action against security personnel involved in firing on protesters that had left four youths dead in Baramulla and Sopore townships, 55 kms from here, the sources said.
The two towns were brought under curfew on June 29 following widespread violent protests over the alleged misbehaviour with a woman inside a police station.
Chanting pro-freedom slogans, hundreds of people took to streets in Jamia Masjid area of downtown Srinagar and indulged in stone-pelting when police assisted by paramilitary forces tried to chase them, the sources said.
Police fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse the protesters who split into groups and engaged the cops in pitched battles at Kawdara, Bohri Kadal, Nowhatta, Malarratta, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal and Saraf Kadal.
