Review: Sorry Bhai!

Onir’s direction is as sincere as a Boy Scout’s which is why you wish he’d get a script that syncs with his heart and mind, writes Khalid Mohamed. See videos:1| 2

He takes gravity with gravitas. This budding scientist is convinced that he can make a wooden dog fly, walk, talk, and thank the lord, he stops at that. Oof woof. See videos:1| 2

Onir’s Sorry Bhai!, however, soon forgets the dog with the wooden expression. Chalo Mauritius. How, you wish they would chalo to Matheran or Mussoorie (less exposed, you know). Anyway, in beachy Mauritius Scientist (Sharman Joshi, impressive) falls slowly but steadily in love with his sister-in-law-to-be (Chitrangada Singh, doubly impressive). Fiancé is dropped like a cricket catch. That’s Sanjay Suri who’s always being dropped anyway. He’s too chocolate mousse, busy at his work, and spookily is even dealing with recession. Mega-tension.

Next: Scientist and Futuristic Sister-in-Law make out in a clothes store. Brothers’ mom is certain there’s something daal mein kaala, and since she’s Shabana Azmi, matters do become super-serious. Her performance is always inspired, of course. Not so, dad Boman Irani’s -- he goes jolly-ho-ho as if it were X’mas already. Truly, how you want to call for a quick board meeting with all these guys, tell them what is what, give the gal away to the scientist, and get the hell out of Mauritius to Matheran. Peace!
