The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rubbished the NC-Congress government claim of seeking `44,000 crore relief package from the Centre for rehabilitation of flood victims in the state, a 'poetic claim'.

Minister of state (MoS) PMO Jitendra Singh slamming the state government for making such demand on Friday said, "I do not know how they have arrived at such figure. Moreover, since the outbreak of floods, the Union government is extending every possible assistance to the state government. On the second day of the floods, Union home minister Rajnath Singh visited the flood-affected areas, followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who announced `1,000 crore package for the flood victims."

"They (NC-Congress) are criticising us (NDA government) when they have nothing to do. The apathy is that the NC-Congress ministers instead of helping the flood victims are trying to draw the financial as well as political benefits from the funds exclusively meant for the sufferers," he added.

In October, the state government sent `44,000 crore comprehensive package to the Centre meant to rehabilitate the flood-hit victims of the state.

Later, after the announcement of `575 crore package by the Prime Minster, state Congress chief Saifuddin Soz criticized the relief announced by the Prime Minister and said it was a "crude joke" with the people of the state and showed "casual approach" of the Centre to help them.
