Shobha was on a two-day tour to the district to visit Tulsipar village of Kesli where an alleged ‘sati’ incident occurred on August 21. While addressing a press conference after her visit, Shobha alleged the Chief Minister had declared the incident to be one of suicide. However, she said he should have waited for the inquiry to be completed and then made any declaration on the incident.

She said during the Winter Session of the State Assembly, 10,000 Congress women workers would gherao the Assembly, protesting the failure of law and order situation in the State and also rising crime against women.

She alleged the State was unsafe for women, small girls were raped and the State Government had failed to protect both. Criticising the SWC, she alleged that instead giving support to victims, the Commission helps culprits.

Praising former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh’s effort for the empowerment of women, she said he had given reservations for women to the post of patwaris too. He had also wanted to open women police stations in every district, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government had failed to set up these stations.
