Passengers of a summer special train from Patna to Delhi had to face a harrowing time on Sunday after the train reached the wrong railway station.
The summer special train was scheduled to reach the Anand Vihar railway station in east Delhi on Sunday but reached the New Delhi station instead after taking a wrong track from the Sahibabad station. Four railway officials have been suspended for the goof up.
Trains arriving from easter n parts of t he country reach Delhi via Ghaziabad. From the Sahibabad station in Ghaziabad, trains destined to Anand Vihar railway station take a different route and trains going towards New Delhi railway station take a separate route.
The Anand Vihar station caters to many special trains in a bid to de-congest the New Delhi and Delhi Main railway stations.
“From Sahibabad, trains to Anand Vihar and New Delhi stations take different routes but there was some miscommunication on the part of the station master and instead of going to Anand Vihar, the train changed lines and reached New Delhi instead,” said a Norther n Railway spokesperson.
“It was a case of wrong routing and the safety of the passengers was not compromised,” he said.
“At this time of the year, there are a large number of special trains that we operate and that might have led to the confusion. Four officials have been suspended and a inquiry has been ordered to find out who was responsible for this,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}The passengers were later sent back to Anand Vihar railway station by a train. “We will ensure that this does not happen in the future,” the spokesperson said.
