The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed June 27 for hearing the bail plea of Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal -- accused of sexually assaulting his junior woman colleague in a Goa hotel.

A vacation bench headed by Justice Vikramjit Sen fixed June 27 to hear Tejpal's regular bail plea, which was fixed for a hearing on July 7.

His counsel, senior advocate Salman Khurshid, sought an early hearing since Tejpal's interim bail expires on June 27 and as per an earlier SC direction he has to surrender on that day until he is released on regular bail.

SC had first on May 19 granted Tejapl interim bail for three weeks to enable him to attend last rites of his mother, who had died on May 18.

But, on June 3 SC extended his stay outside jail till June 27 after Tejpal moved the court saying he had to perform religious ceremonies in the memory of his mother.
