Ten top Bollywood stars have been roped in to appear in one special song for photographer Subi Samuel’s film production, Alag.

Remember Amitabh Bachchan’s John Johnny Janardhan number from Manmohan Desai’s Naseeb? It remains memorable for the large star turnout in the song. Despite no declared intention to match the feat, the title track of Alag has the most heavy-duty star turnout of recent times in one song. The line-up reads: Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra.

About the title track, directed by Ashu Trikha for Subi Samuel Movies, the lensman-turned-filmmaker says, “They’re all talking about the central character Tejas, played by Akshay Kapoor (Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao), saying he’s unique, hence the title Alag.” With such a star presence, it must have been quite a job co-ordinating the dates. “Not really. Most of them shot separately. We shot with three-four actors per day, so we finished shooting the sequence in three days.” The film, says Samuel, is an “emotional story about a super human being, super because he has special powers”.

However, this extraordinary person does not show off his powers; instead, he wants to be accepted as a normal person. Dia Mirza plays the leading lady.

The sequence is meant to have a very ethereal feel. “All the actors were dressed in white for the song, which was shot against a white background,” explains Samuel. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on April 7.
