Roads and buildings minister Abdul Majid Wani has directed public works (R&B) department to carry on snow clearance and road restoration operations on a war footing.
Directing the officials of the department, including R&B, mechanical engineering department, and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PGMSY), Wani asked them to depute their men and machinery immediately in the field so as to restore all road links which have been washed away due to incessant snow and rainfall during the past two days.
"It becomes prime duty of all the officials to lessen inconveniences caused to general public in tough hilly terrains of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi and parts of the Kashmir Valley, said Wani.
He also directed the authorities to ensure supply of sufficient food grains and kerosene oil to these areas without any further delay.
Wani also spoke to the chief minister, who was quick in flying a high-level team of officers. including financial commissioner (revenue), principal secretary (planning), and Jammu divisional commissioner to Doda to take stock of the situation.
