The gruesome incident— yet another instance of honour killing — took place on Thursday. Guddi, 30, wife of Dhaniram Gurjar, 45, had allegedly fled to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh with her lover Kamal Balmik on October 2.

However, soon after, Guddi changed her mind and returned home to her four children. And that is when Gurjar and three others allegedly beat her up and hung her body from a tree. But on finding that she was still breathing, they set her on fire and immersed the ashes in a river, the police said.

The matter did not reach the police for four days. It came to light when Guddi’s father lodged an FIR against the four accused on Sunday. The police have arrested one accused, Uday Singh, while the other three, including Gurjar, are still at large.
