A couple abandoned their three children in the Khandwa-Mhow passenger train on Sunday night for some unexplained reason.

The three kids – two girls aged between six and three years and a boy aged about two years – were found by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Mhow station when the train terminated at 11 pm.

The children were brought to Indore and handed over to the government-run shelter home Childline, where they will be kept till their parents are traced, officials said.

All three have been medically examined and are fine, they said, adding that they appear to be from a poor family.

Childline city coordinator Brajesh Dhakad said that according to information that could be gleaned from the eldest child, they are residents of village Rajori in Khandwa district and were coming to Mhow from Khandwa in the train on Sunday night.

Their father’s name is Mahendra Salve and their mother’s name is Sonu. Both were in an inebriated condition and started fighting soon after the train started moving, Dhakad said.

RPF officials reportedly told the Childline that the parents most probably got down between Atar and Ajanti railway station, abandoning the three children.

“Both the GRP’s missing children’s wing and the RPF have alerted all the railway stations along the route to trace the parents. The Khandwa police have also been informed, but so far we have not received any information,” Dhakad said.
