Barwani: Lance naik Baghel cremated with full state honours

Lance Naik Ramesh Baghel of Mahar regiment was cremated with full state honours at Rajpur in Barwani on Wednesday.

He met with a mishap when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a 100-meter deep gorge at Mendhar Tehsil of the frontier Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

As soon as his mortal remains reached at his native village Narawala on Wednesday morning from Mhow in a military vehicle, people from all walks of life thronged to his resident to bid tearful farewell.

Wreaths were laid by a number of people, including MP Subhash Patel, local MLA Bala Ram Bachchan, Om Soni, collector Ajay Gangwar and SP Tilak Singh.

Hundreds joined his funeral parade which started from lance Naik Ramesh Baghel's native village Narawala, 3 km from Rajpur. A gun salute was given to the martyr by a contingent of the police and army, prior to which buglers sounded the Last Post.

The lance naik is survived by two sons, Vishal (12) and Vijendra (10), and wife Santoshi Bai.

Baghel is the third from the district to be martyred after sepoy Robert Martin of village Chatli (Niwali tehseel), who died on February 10, 2003 in terrorist attack in Manipur; and constable Santosh Chouhan from village Baghadi, who died on May 11, 2010 in a naxal attack in neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh.
