The police said the deceased was identified as 40-year-old Thakur Singh, who died on the spot.

According to the local police, it was around midnight when around eight dacoits attacked Chatur Singh and Thakur Singh’s house and made away with booty worth Rs 1.5 lakh including gold and silver ornaments, cattle and utensils.

“There was a power cut in the village at the time of incident”

However, one of the injured Kailash -- son of Chatur Singh Thakur -- said there were around 40-50 dacoits and there was a power cut in the village at the time of the incident.

“Dacoits first attacked Chatur Singh’s house and later my Uncle Thakur Singh’s house. When my uncle resisted, they shot him dead,” Kailash said.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under Section 396 and 397 (dacoity with murder) under the Indian Penal Code and investigation is on.

Police reached the spot half an hour after the dacoity, claim villagers

Villagers said they informed the Tanda police station, around 5 km from the place of incident, when the dacoits attacked the houses. However, a police team reached the spot half an hour after the robberies by which time the accused had fled from the spot with the loot.

Villagers said dacoits had looted many villagers in the past but the police’s callous attitude encouraged similar kinds of incident in the area.

Tanda police station incharge Manju Malviya dismissed all the allegations claiming that the police team reached the spot as soon as they got information.

“The police launched a search operation but are yet to get any success as all the accused are unidentified,” Malviya added.
