DAVV convocation: Governor calls for cashless economy

“Having piety and compassion are the hallmarks of the educated. It is incumbent upon them to work for the betterment of the country so that India joins the rank of developed countries from the ‘developing’ rank,” he said in his address at the convocation ceremony for graduates of 2012-13 and 2013-14 batches at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.

He urged the varsity authorities to device ways to ensure that the lakhs of uneducated youth are included in the ambit of higher education. “Fifty per cent of the country are youths, but this demographic dividend will become a headache if they remain uneducated and unemployed,” he said, adding that universities should make degree holders employable.

Calling for better research and education standards in the universities, the governor said DAVV should collaborate with foreign universities besides working with Indian counterparts. He also said there should be a balance over courses between technical education, management and humanities streams in universities. “Humanities are neglected at present, but they are a must for a well-rounded personalities,” he said.
