Indore: MCI rejects MGM college’s demand for more PG seats

In a setback to Indore's MGM Medical College’s bid to get more seats for PG courses, a team of Medical Council of India (MCI) officials, who inspected the college in April, had pointed out that the college does not have adequate infrastructure and shortage of space as a major deterrent in increasing the seats.

The college had applied for increasing the seats from 140 to 150 in post-graduate courses.

The report also pointed towards the inadequacy in the number of senior resident doctors and resident doctors to guide the post-graduate students.

The present infrastructure was cited as inadequate for an extension in the number of seats.

According to the report, the seats could not be increased as the college lacks a big lecture hall, auditorium and a huge library.

Dean of MGM medical college Dr N K Rathore was then called to Delhi by the MCI to give due presentation on the same topic.

"The dean was called in by the experts and he was asked to give us a brief about the future proposals related to infrastructure if they have any. On Wednesday, the principal secretary for medical education was also called in to give a presentation," said Dr Sanjay Dixit, vice- dean of MGM medical college.

"We have plans to develop the area but all this will take some time as we are still trying to finish the facelift works at MY Hospital. So a MoU will be signed as a proof that necessary improvement in the infrastructure will be taken as well,” Dixit said.
