Indore's Mahak wins Wimbeldon Under-14 title

Bringing more glory to country from tennis court, Indore's Mahak Jain won HSBC Road to Wimbledon 2015 for girls under-14 beating Hampshire's Esther Adeshina. In the summit clash, Mahak defeated her Hampshire counterpart by 6-4, 6-3.

The HSBC Road to Wimbledon 2015 is a dream ticket to play at Wimbledon and with title victory, Mahak automatically got wild-card for 2016 under-18 category Wimbledon, said Sajid Lodhi, who is coaching Mahak at Indore Tennis Club (ITC) after she shifted to city from Mumbai along with her family.

In the final, Mahak performed spectacularly and bagged the title.

"It feels amazing, I'm really happy. She made very few mistakes and was able to make Esther move a lot," said Jain.

"Today was a much tougher contest; it was neck-to-neck and was very close. It was physically and mentally exhausting, but I'm mentally quite strong and managed to keep to my game plan. Winning at Wimbledon is by far my proudest moment and it inspires me to keep improving," said Mahak. In semifinals she had defeated Erin Richardson 6-4, 6-2.

Before this, she had won 2015 Asia/Oceana final held at Thailand and qualified for World Finals which would be held in Prostejov Czech Republic.
Born in 2001, daughter of Vijay Jain, a businessman involved in real estate business and Rashmi Jain, housewife, she started playing tennis at age of nine.

Mahak said at the beginning she took the sport as a hobby, but once she started wining the tournaments, she decided to take it as a career option.
