Indore: Sahastrabuddhe calls for gender equality

National BJP vice-president in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Vinay Sahastrabuddhe in Indore on Sunday gave a call for gender equality and said that Navratri festival dedicated to goddess worship is a right occasion to take this message forward.

He said social issues hold equal importance for the saffron party.

The BJP leader was in Indore on Sunday to take part in a religious event organised by BJP MLA from assembly constituency-1 Sudarshan Gupta in which thousands of men and women carried more than two kilometre-long chunari to be offered to goddess at Bijasan temple.

“Let’s take a resolve to stop discrimination against girl child by giving her good education and equal opportunities for progress. Let’s prevent school drop out of girl child,” said Sahastrabuddhe, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteer.

National BJP Mahila Morcha president Vijaya Rahatkar, who was also present on the occasion, endorsed his views and said that BJP was the only party which takes up social issues in an effective manner.

This year’s theme was ‘Save daughter, educate girl child.’ As follow-up, the participants who were mostly BJP members showing placards with save daughter slogan covered a distance of over two kilometres from Bada Ganpati to Bijasan temple, a 150-year old shrine which attracts devotees from Indore district.

Those present on the occasion included state transport minister and minister in-charge of district Bhupendra Singh Arya, BJP MLAs Rajesh Sonekar, Mahendra Hardia, mayor and MLA Malini Gaud, ex-MLA Jitu Jirati, ex-mayors KM Moghe, Uma Shashi Sharma and city BJP president Kailash Sharma.
