In preparation for the much-anticipated Simhastha - 2016, the district administration is planning to build four bus stands at different locations across the city to make public transport more accessible to pilgrims.

On Friday, district collector P Narahari, municipal commissioner Manish Singh, Indore Development Authority (IDA) CEO Rakesh Singh and sub divisional magistrate Deepak Singh conducted a day-long inspection in the outskirts of the city to finalize locations for the new bus stands.

An area near the new RTO office at Palda, one near Lasudia Mori, one in Kumedi village and another in open area near IPS Academy in Rajendra Nagar have been identified by the officials for setting up the bus stands.

“The move will also decongest the city. The buses coming from different directions will stop at these bus stands, and only city buses will be allowed in the city,” said an official.

Navlakha, Gangwal and Sarvate, the primary bus stands of the city, are already heavily congested and the addition of four more is expected to ease pressure on them.

The idea behind the four locations is to help pilgrims bypass city traffic on their way to Ujjain for Simhastha. The bus stands will also offer waiting halls for the passengers to relax in between journeys.

Additionally, the district collector has ordered the removal of encroachments between Bengali Square and Palasia to decongest city streets.
