The Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided three premises of a cooperative committee manager in Ujjain and unearthed assets worth over Rs 2.5 crore.

Lokayukta sleuths examining documents at the house of cooperative manager Basantilal Sharma in Ujjain on Tuesday.

According to Lokayukta inspector Basant Shrivastava, complaints of corruption were pouring in against Basantilal Sharma, the manager of a cooperative committee at village Ambodia under the district cooperative bank. Sharma was responsible for sanctioning agricultural loans to farmers.

The sleuths reached his house at LP Bhargava Nagar early morning and began the search. The raids were soon expanded to Alaknanda Nagar and Sarola village .

Shrivastava said Sharma owned six houses in posh localities, including Mahashakti, Rishi Nagar, Mahakal Vanijyik, Sethi Nagar besides the three raided.

The officials recovered `11.52 in cash, gold and silver articles worth over Rs 8 lakh from his houses. Sharma owns six luxury sports utility vehicles, and six hectares of land at Sarola.

Shrivastava said Sharma could not have assets of more than Rs 45 lakh, including his agriculture land, from his known sources of income.

The sleuths also came to know that Sharma has two wives - one lives at Sarola and another lives at Alakhnanda Nagar house.
