Met dept warns of heavy rains in south-west MP

The meteorological department on Sunday issued warning for ‘heavy to very heavy rains’ at isolated places in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Shajapur and Agar districts in next 24 hours.

The warning is valid till Monday noon.

Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Khandwa, Khargone, Jhabua and Alirajpur districts will receive moderate to heavy rains, the department said, adding that rain will be widespread in most places and will continue till Tuesday after which it will decrease marginally during next two to three days.

On Sunday, Indore received intermittent spells of light to moderate rains for second consecutive day – taking the total rainfall to 244.4 mm till 5.30 pm. The city received 60 mm of rains in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am.

The maximum temperature was 24.5 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees below normal. The minimum temperature at 22.3 degrees Celsius was one degree below normal.

During his review meeting with senior officials, Chouhan instructed them to keep a close watch on the flood situation in the state 24x7. He asked all the collectors to take all possible measures to tackle the flood situation and keep a watch on the situation ahead.

The collectors have been asked to assess the damage caused to the properties of people in the flood-affected areas so that relief fund could be provided to them for its disbursement among the affected people.

The government officials have been instructed to shift people living in the vicinity of rivers and nullahs to safe areas and make arrangements for food and lodging in camps. Potable water will be provided to affected people while the health department would take measures to check spread of diseases caused by the flood situation.
