Congress announces mayoral candidates

Congress announced names of mayoral candidates for the upcoming municipal corporation by-polls. Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said Kavita Gome would be the official candidate of the party for the mayor’s post in Ujjain and Rajendra Solanki would be the party candidate for Morena.

A tussle was going on among the Congress leaders belonging to different factions for the mayor’s ticket to date. Generally, names of official candidates are announced before the last date of filing of nomination forms. The last date for the same was July 28, while names of the official candidates were announced a day after on July 29.

A senior leader not wishing to be named said that technically ‘B’ form (form allotted to the official candidate of the party) could be submitted till the date of withdrawal; therefore, there is no hassle in declaring the names of official candidates even today (July 29).

The last date for withdrawing nominations is July 31. Voting will be held on August 12, while counting will be held on August 14.
